Job Title: 2 x Sport Psychology Internships (FP & YDP Sport Psychologist)

Location: Various locations within Tiptree & Colchester

Working Hours: 8 hours per week

Salary: Voluntary Internship

Reports to: Head of Academy Psychology

Closing Date: 11th October 2024 5pm

Interview Date: Scheduled for 17th & 18th October

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit two highly motivated, innovative and committed individuals, to undertake an unpaid internship within the Sport Psychology Department at Colchester United Academy, working primarily with the foundation (U9-U12) and youth development (U13-U16) phases of the academy.

The role will entail development and delivery of psychology workshops based on the 5Cs framework. There may also be some opportunity for individual, 1-2-1 work where necessary. In addition, we offer peer supervision within the psychology department at Colchester United, along with peer supervision from academy psychologists from clubs across the country.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of psychological theories and principles related to sport and exercise psychology.
  • Proficiency in psychological assessment tools commonly used in sport psychology settings (e.g., personality assessments, stress inventories, coping skills assessments).
  • Ability to apply psychological strategies and interventions to enhance athletic performance, motivation, resilience, and overall well-being.
  • Familiarity with psychological skills techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with athletes and coaches from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Have accountability and responsibility for safeguarding at all times.

Placement working hours are part-time, with a minimum of 8 hours per week, mostly in the evenings. Some weekends may be required as part of the role.

Essential:

  • Currently enrolled on QSEP or SEPAR routes of qualification in Sport and Exercise Psychology
  • To have a supervision in place prior to commencement of role
  • Experience working with athletes (amateur or professional)
  • Ability to commit for the duration of the 2024/25 season
  • Full UK driving license (desirable, but not essential)
