NCS Team Assistant

Job Description

Colchester United Football in the Community are looking for individuals to work on their NCS (Nation Citizen Service) summer programme.

Your responsibilities will include, running ice breaker activities, support guided reflections sessions, as well as making sure each young person is safe and getting the upmost from the NCS journey. The role is very much suited to someone who is hands on and passionate about young people and can adapt to various challenges.

Main Duties
Assist with the co-ordination of the team during Phase 1 and Phase 2 (Residential)
Ensure all health and safety guidelines are adhered to
Support team discussions and tasks
Run and support ice breaker games and guided reflection activities.
Support Team Leader with challenging behaviour and building team rapport
Provide pastoral guidance to young people whilst on programme.

Person Specification
Essential
An understanding of working with 15-17 year olds and how to engage them
Experience of working in a fast paced and demanding environment
Enjoy and be passionate about working with young people
Excellent spoken and written communication
Have a positive outlook no matter the situation
Desirable
Previous knowledge or experience of NCS
Experience of working with 15-17 year olds in either a paid or voluntary capacity
A current first aid qualification
A youth work qualification
Experienced and skill in other areas

How the Programme Works
Phase 1 - Adventure (Residential - Social Mixing)
The first week offers a chance for the young people and staff to bond throughout a week of challenging outdoor activities. The week provided an opportunity for personal and social development using a range of activities that challenge the young people physically and mentally to push them outside of their comfort zones. Residential 4 nights, 5 days.

Phase 2 - Discovery (Residential - Independent living & Life Skills)
Young people return to their local community, the focus of the week is developing independent living and vital life skills. The bond between the young people should now begin to support the necessary team to create another successful week. Residential 4 nights, 5 days.

Phase 3 - Social Action Project
Facilitate and support the participates to design and deliver a successful social action project that will leave a positive and long last Legacy within the local community. The 2 weeks included 30 hours of planning and 30 hours of delivery (60 Hours Total).

Graduation
Attendance at the Graduation Event showcasing and celebrating the achievements of the young people and staff throughout the NCS Journey.

Wave Dates
The programmes will run across Colchester between Monday 1st July and Friday 23rd August. (Wave 1 - 1st July to 26th July, Wave 2 - 29th July to 26th August)
Should you be successful, you must be available to work for a full wave (4 weeks). Applicants should consider this when applying. It is preferable that you are able to work on both waves (8 weeks)

During the non-residential weeks travel, food and accommodation costs to the programme are not covered.

Hours: Part time, over 4-8 weeks

Salary: £1,200 per month
