Job Description

Job Title: Head of Psychology

Department: Education and Welfare

Work Base: Colchester United (various sites across Colchester/Tiptree)

Hours of Work: Part time, 16 hours per week

Contract: Seasonal contract 10 months per year

Responsible to:
Education & Operations Manager  

Relationships and Contacts:
Academy Manager 
Head of Welfare
Head of Player Care

Job Purpose:

To develop and deliver provision of psychological support. To support welfare and care of players. To take responsibility for maintaining and improving provision of psychological support, including mental and emotional well-being. To put together a framework that supports collective and individualised approaches.

Person Specification:

Hold a Psychology degree at Masters Level, and be accredited by the British Psychological Society and/or the British Association of Sports & Exercise Medicine.

Psychologist Duties: 

1. Complete the performance profiling of all Academy players.
2. Develop and support players utilising formal and informal strategies. 
3. Ensure that the club is compliant with regards to Sports Psychology provision.
4. Ensure that all work undertaken remains confidential, but can be evidenced.
5. Develop and maintain open, honest and supportive feedback to players.
6. Liaise with colleagues to prioritise the needs of certain players.
7. Design learning that can be used as part of Sporting Excellence Professional Apprenticeship.
8. Work with colleagues to manage the Academy’s Mental & Emotional Wellbeing pathway strategy.
9. Manage the release of players from the Academy, offering appropriate support to the individual as they prepare for future careers.
10. Attend meetings as appropriate both on and off site. 

Salary: Full time equivalent £36,000 pa, Pro rata £12,000 for 10 month seasonal contract.
